Preschool--Now Enrolling for Fall 2012

We are happy to announce that we will be opening a Montessori Preschool!  It will be a half day program for ages 2-6.5.  School hours will be 9am-1pm, and you can choose for your child to attend 2, 3, 4, or 5 days a week.

Philosophy

We believe that kiddos learn through being an active member of his/her community and that participating in practical life activities will facilitate growth in all areas of development.

Curriculum

We will use a Montessori Curriculum, where children ages 2-6.5 will engage in “works” that are created to target different developmental areas. Peace corner, Sandpaper letters, counting beads, building blocks, 3-d shapes are just a few examples of the materials we will use.

In addition to the Montessori curriculum, children will participate in yoga classes, art classes, music and movement, drama, and free play. We will plant, care for, and harvest a garden, study creatures that live outdoors, take lots of walks to the bird sanctuary, participate in community service events and visit the library next door for story time.

The preschool will be located two doors down from our current space and we are busy getting the building ready for the new preschool!  If you are interested in more information and rates, please stop by The Tree House or call 828-505-2589.

Hurry, space is limited!

Music Together!

Hurry to sign up for Music Together at The Tree House!!  This class will be held on Tuesdays at 5:00pm and it is filling up quickly!

Mixed Ages

The Essential Music Together® Class

This is the essential Music Together class, one that a child can attend from birth through kindergarten—and through all nine song collections. This basic class follows the recommendations of child development researchers—grouping children of a variety of ages in one class. This approach fosters natural, family-style learning where younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own developmental level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, observing, or exploring musical instruments.
We welcome the whole family to join in this important family music experience and any caregiver—parents, grandparents, nanny—can bring the child(ren) to class.

Registration is required for the Music Together class.  Call The Tree House to sign up 828-505-2589.

Parenting Stamina Workshop

Parenting Stamina:
Finding Balance and Living Your Values as a Parent
Parenting Stamina is a course designed to help parents identify their values and priorities, as well as the places in our lives where we are or are not meeting those values.  By examining our priorities and our schedules, we can determine the best way to move towards a more balanced, healthy and fulfilling life.  Based on the work of a well-known psychologist and executive coach, this class has been tailored to meet the needs of parents.  The four sessions will each focus on a different topic, allowing time for introspective activities and group discussion.

Class One:  Examining our values, priorities and current commitments

This class uses exercises designed to show us how our values align with our current schedules.  We will discuss why there are imbalances and how best to align what we want with what we are doing.

Class Two:  Stress Management

In this class, students will learn to identify sources of stress and various methods for dealing with it.  We will also discuss time management.

Class Three:  Health and Fitness

This class gives parents a chance to focus on themselves, creating a holistic approach to caring for their bodies.  Basic training plans and nutrition will be covered, along with a discussion of alternative health care practices.

Class Four:  Relationships

Since parenting is all about relationships, this class will introduce a concept called Communication Styles.  Through exercises and introspection, students will learn to identify their own style, as well as the styles of others, and how best to communicate with, and adapt to, each style.

Allison Seldman is a local mother of two small children.  She holds an undergraduate degree in religion, a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling and was trained and worked as a massage therapist.  Allison also spent several years as a triathlete before starting a family.  She designed this course based on the principles of Executive Stamina, a best-selling book and seminar written by her father, Martin Seldman.

The series of classes costs $80 and children are welcome to play at The Tree House during the classes.
